Who we are
We are an outreach ministry of St. Therese Church in the Parkville, MO area, providing assistance since 1958.
We serve Platte County residents with food and emergency financial assistance without regard to faith, age, gender, or race.
100% of our funding comes from generous donations from our community.
We are an all-volunteer ministry with 99%+ of the donations going directly to client assistance. We are good stewards of your donations.
Some of our food is free from Harvesters – The Community Network. Most, though, is purchased from them at a reduced rate. Orders are picked up each Tuesday and delivered to us on the first and third Thursdays of each month. We also purchase, at reduced rates, produce from Hy Vee (Barry Road) and cleaning/hygiene supplies from Giving The Basics. Because Harvesters’ food supply has greatly diminished over the last several years, we now purchase some meats from Mies Wholesale Meat and other items from Sun Fresh Grocery. Other lower priced items are purchased from Walmart, Dollar General and Dollar Tree.
In addition to the purchased items, we receive free products from three area McDonalds, two Dollar Generals, Sprouts (64th Street), Hy-Vee (Barry Road), Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, Panera Bread, RayCam and CVS.
We also organize the Christmas Adopt-A-Family outreach for our clients. Parishioners volunteer to provide gifts for children in the households.
History
St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) was founder of the Congregation of the Mission, Daughters of Charity, Confraternities of Charity, and Ladies of Charity. A man of deep faith, keen intellect, and enormous creativity, he has become known as the "The Apostle of Charity" and "Father of the Poor." His contributions to the training of priests and organizing parish missions and other services for the poor shaped our Church's role in the modern world.
How To Volunteer
We are an all-volunteer organization and welcome new volunteers. We currently have over 150 volunteers doing a variety of things to help our clients.
Each day, the pantry is staffed by 15-20 volunteers. We have office workers, grocery sackers, food runners, grocery pick-up, truck unloading, shelf stockers, etc.
If you would like to volunteer, call 816-741-8661.
