Parish Schools
of Religion
Parish Schools of Religion (PSR) includes all faith formation for 12th grade and younger; Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Religious Education (K-5th Grade) and Young Church (6th-12th Grade Youth Ministry). We are a ministry that partners with parents to help grow their children in our Catholic faith.
Religious Education
K - 5th grade
Religious Education (RE) is a ministry for children who do not attend St. Therese School to receive their religious instruction. We offer RE classes for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
RE will meet on Wednesdays evenings from 6-7:15 pm in the Parish and Education Center (school). The core curriculum for RE will be Gospel Weeklies, published by Pflaum, a faith formation program. These resources are grade-appropriate for Kindergarten and 1st grade (Promise), 2nd and 3rd grade (Good News), and 4th and 5th grade (Venture). Included will be a weekly pamphlet that focuses the lesson around the Sunday readings. During RE lessons, the students will also be using a handbook, titled “What the Church Believes and Teaches” in order to learn about what we believe as Catholics, the liturgy and sacraments, morality, and prayer. Many additional resources are also available online at the Gospel Weeklies website, https://www.gospelweeklies.com/.
Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist is included for all 2nd graders and children older than 2nd grade who have not received these Sacraments.
A parent meeting will be held in the fall for Reconciliation and in January for Eucharist and will provide more information on the Sacrament preparation process.
Sacrament Preparation
Reconciliation & Eucharist
Children in grade 2 (must be registered in St. Therese School or Religious Education program) will prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Parents must attend a meeting in late September/early October and again in January. The sacrament of Reconciliation is typically celebrated during the Advent Season and the sacrament of Eucharist is celebrated during the Easter season.
If a child is older then 2nd grade, they can prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist also. Contact Stephanie Andrade for more details. sandrade@sttheresenorth.org or 816.741.5400 ext 219
